Final Product What You'll Be Creating
Twice a month we revisit some of our reader’s favorite posts from throughout the history of Cgtuts+. Today we’re taking a look back at Aleksey Voznesenski’s awesome tutorial on creating a jumping lamp animation in Cinema4D. This two day tutorial was originally published back in March of 2010, and proved to be very popular with our C4D users.
This tutorial is a relatively quick overview of setting up a scene with a rigged animated object in Cinema4D. Although it should be simple to follow along to anyone with a basic knowledge of Cinema 4D, this tutorial is mainly aimed at artists migrating to Cinema4D from another package. It quickly and concisely demonstrates how to use the basic modeling tools, set up a rig with bones, use constraints, change the type of keyframes, use the auto keyframe tool, clean up keyframes, work with the time line, set up lights, set up materials, apply the materials to objects and render out an animation. Everything you need to quickly get into Cinema4D.

Very good tutorial! many useful tips :D
A for effort
F for originality
I guess the purpose of this tutorial is not about developping a style, but how to create something you’re already familiar with.
Why F? Ok, so it’s the Pixar lamp. Who cares? That’s what workshops are about, reproducing something you see and learning how it was done.
Thanks Aleksey.
Y for you.
S for should.
L for leave.
Aleksey, good tutorial. This will help me in pure concept, even in Maya.
Hmm… seems familiar somehow…
thanks so much aleksey; great tutorial! this is exactly what a tutorial should be, a straight forward way to learn about a program or technique.
don’t listen to these uninspired people who are obviously here to find out WHAT they should do, and not HOW to create their own vision.
This looks promising. Rigging mechanical objects in C4D is sometimes more of a mystery than more organic character rigging. Look forward to it, thanks.
not sure whatsup with the negative comments up their,
nice work and keep it up,
if u guys have nothing good to say at least show us what u can do…
Final Image clip doesn’t work here. It also appears you have made some HTML mistakes. Seeing that the folowing code shows up:

I just loved it.
Really I mean the tutorial was super awesome. I’ve been using Cinema 4D for quite some time now and never bothered with Command Manager but now I know how powerful it actually is. My workflow has become a lot smoother thank to u.
I don’t know anything about with rigging and constraints but the way this tutorials introduced these concepts to me was cool. This is the way a tutorial should be.
Hoping to see more from you Aleksy.

i just wanted to say this is a great tut have been looking on the web for good c4d tuts…i’m trying to learn c4d from 3ds
Great tut, Aleksey. Really enjoy the speed of your work and technical skills. You seem to be a regular rigger:) So still waiting for the rest of the tutorial, any idea when it’s coming up?
P.S. I see you are on C4D R11.5, so for disabling HyperNURBS (or any other nurbs object) just hit Q key:) Thought I point it out, as I saw you were struggling there.
Hi,
sorry guys, been busy with other work. Will try and get it done ASAP.
I am not really that much into rigging. I mean i can do it, but its probably the least favourite part of working in 3D. But thanks for the compliment =)
yeah the Q key… i have it remapped to object mode, so it doesnt really do that anymore. Although i think i got parent generator toggle mapped to alt+q or something. I should probably use it more, but i tried to minimize hotkey usage here as much as i could, so people would be able to follow along.
cheers,
Aleksey
Amazing!! I just had a look at the first video while eating, and wow you move fast! There’s a lot of technique to pick up there, when I follow the tutorial I’ll have to pause to try things out.

There actually is no Part 3, as it is a 2 Day series. Day 2 has been submitted, however, and will be published very soon. Sorry for the delay!
