I found this very useful since Epic released the entire UDK to the public only a few days ago which is the entire game engine and not just the editor.

Not having any experience with the Material Editor beforehand I found this to be very helpful.

Thankyou.

Unreal Ed comes with Unreal 3 engine, but only as a part of engine. And what you create is essentially custom level for Unreal III tournament, which will run through unreal interface only. It is not going to be separate stand alone game.
To make stand alone game one should go about licencing engine, and it does make sense, if you intend to make business out of gamemaking, you should buy tools.
Every company that licenced this engine to make their own games, has got editor, Roboblitz editor for example, which exists only by means to modify roboblitz game. Roboblitz is UnrealEd basically.
I've never played mirror's edge, and I do not know if it meant to be modifiable, if yes editor will install with the game.

Regarding tutorial. Really great, short, to the point and easy follow and comprehend. Thanks!

making it in max / maya and c4d would have been a terrible ue3 shader tutorial.. since the subject says this is a ue3 tutorial. ued editior is much much cheaper than max or maya.. just buy unreal 3

i just used a variation of this tute to make glowing lights on an object,, worked nice,, thanks

Sadly no the unreal 3 engine is yet to run on mac so the editor wont be released till one of the games running it is released on mac. however unreal tournament 3 is slated to be released on mac but the release date is unknown.

So I did some research--it looks like Mirror's Edge does not currently ship with the editor tools. For what it's worth, the editor is no a standalone ap, it's an extension of the gamename.exe file and is accessed via a command parameter or via the frontend. Perhaps Mirror's Edge will patch it in later, as some custom ME levels would be rad.

Also, Unreal tournament 3 is only 20 bucks on steam. I got it during a half-off deal to, for 10$. Roboblitz also ships with the editor, and is also only 10$, though it's probably an older version of the editor.

If you want to work in the games industry, you really can't ask for a better opportunity to tinker with some of the tools of the trade.
