Create Incredible Looking Hair Effects with Particles in Blender – Day 2

In this multi-part, video tutorial about Blender’s Hair Particles System, we will learn some very useful options to use when trying to create cool or convincing hair effects. We will also add colour to the hair, light the scene, add a few compositing nodes, and finally set the particle system as a softbody so we can animate it.

This tutorial is Day 2 in a series – Go to Day 1

We’ll start this second day by shading our hair, then we’ll add a simple lighting rig and a background image. Next we’ll move on to adding a few compositing nodes, and finally, we’ll activate soft body physics for our particle system and add a wind field to interact with the hair.

    Cheers Mate, Great tutorial.

Quick question, I noticed that you use shadow buffers rather than ray traced shadows. Is there a reason for that?

Good job man. I strongly support open source programs like Blender and Make Human (you can find it at google, you can make a human.obj at zero time with just move some bars). And even more I strongly support tutorials. The things that we know we must pass them to other peoples!

This tutorial is fantastic although you fail to mention some things or I just missed them.
#1 Ive followed the tutorial exactly and yet Ive never been able to make Buffer Shadows render particle shadows. Raytrace shadows work on particles but Ive never seen buffer shadows work on hair particles. What did you do to the particles to make the shadows work on them?
