Incredible looking tut, really nice and organic. Too bad I don’t know how to use blender – if it were Maya or C4D, that’d be nice.

Press n in the 3D view and scroll down until you see “Background”. You can add an image there and choose which views it appears in.

You need to subdivide the stem, remember to do the inner one and the outer one, to do this you go in to edit mode and click shift W and scroll the mouse wheel

Good stuff! It’s great to see more and more advanced tutorials available. It’s quite amazing the different ways people use the same tools.

For anyone starting out in Blender do yourself a favour and follow this link http://www.blendercookie.com/getting-started-with-blender/

Select the mesh, press CRTL+TAB and then click through the different bones. Each bone should only have the verts close to it red. maybe start over with the rig. If you unparent and parent the armature again, don’t forget to delete the vertex groups. And make sure to select “Groups from bone heat” when parenting.

soo, I might be a little late here, anyways…
first off, very nice tutorial, yep! I do have a question however: I made a second ring of hairs which should be on the inside of the “thing”… so I want the hairs to emit towards the inside/center of the vertexgroup. How do I do this? Flipping normals like in 22:24 doesn’t work, obviously..
    cheers,
    U.

for the interest of tutorials you should really have your layout as the default 2.5 layout, and get keystroke display to make it easier for people to watch it
but all in all great stuff!
