Final Product What You'll Be Creating

In this tutorial by author Shaun Keenan, we’ll look at setting up and rendering a product shot inside of RandomControl’s Fryrender. Shaun will start out by covering the process of setting up and preparing the scene in Maya, before exporting to Fry. We’ll look at creating light emitting geometry through shaders, as well as creating the jellybean and glass materials, finally we’ll set up and tweak the render settings inside of Fry.

Fryrender is the physically-based light simulator developed by RandomControl. It is a photo-realistic render engine where all the elements involved in the generation of the final image (materials, lights and cameras) are based on physically accurate models. In Fryrender, when you hit the render button, a simulation of the real behavior of light happens inside. Because of this, it is possible to achieve hyper-realistic results with minimal effort.

Thank you, this is a really great tutorial, I am going to try to make this as soon as I can. I love when Maya tutorials get posted, and this is something I’m extremely interested in!

My favourite part of the tutorial by far was when you had mis-typed “bacrkround,” noticed it was spelled wrong, and then replaced it with “backround,” which is still spelled wrong :)

I saw that awesome picture and it’s been love at first sight !
Here i tried a quick render with Maya, just to see how much of a difference there is with an unbiased render ^^

Unfortunately i did this BEFORE even looking at the tutorial (that’s what love is about lol), so the lighting setup is very different, and my “jelly beans” here have a simple blinn material (the glass is a mia_material with thick glass preset).

    HI!!!
im trying and i get well results, but i got a question about the rendering time because in other tutorials i watch before and these one, i see render times about 3 or 4 hours (off course with beautofull results). But i just wanna know if i have to wait all this time to get that result ????? because in vray i can get a similar resoult with less time , i mean a render of 20 minutes in vray got a great look,// a 20 minutes render with fryrender is to noisy

    Hi
Where do I get the Fry plugin for 2011 x64?

  8. Shaun Keenan says:

Rendertime is dependant also on system hardware .The more power you have the quicker the render .I did wait about 7 hours or so for the final render in the end .There is no 2011 x64 plug avalbale yet as it hasnt been released to the general public yet .It will soon enough though .If you have more questions click on my author port and it will let you email me.

Why are all the good tutorials in video form? I am deaf, and they move along too quickly to follow. I would love to go back to the old written ones!

The guy in the video sounds like he’s going to through up.
