Final Product What You'll Be Creating

This entry is part 1 of 7 in the series Classic He-Man Action Figure

Today we’re kicking off a brand new tutorial series covering the creation of an awesome He-Man Action Figure using Maya. This unique series will walk you through the entire process of modeling your very own action figure inspired by the iconic 80′s character.

Rather then relying on digital sculpting techniques, author Soni Kumari will show you how to create the character using traditional poly modeling techniques. The He-man figure poses a number of unique challenges not found in your typical character modeling tutorial, from inter-locking limb joints, to stylized anatomy and plastic hair. You’ll learn how to tackle each of these to achieve that classic ‘action figure’ look!

This is my idea and it has been stolen from me. I have already modeled this He-man from masters of universe series. You can check it in image attached with this post.

    • ABHISHEK KUMAR THAKUR

Puneet, your model looks good. But how can you claim that Soni has stolen your
idea? You haven’t made any tutorial so how can you say so? You just modeled the
toy model seeing some reference on net, anybody else can make it, even I can
make it. So what! Have you copyright of such kind of toy model? Do you want to
threat the whole world that no body else can model the HeMan model, since you
have touched it already? How ridiculous!
If you claim that Soni has stolen
your idea then where is your tutorial? Why don’t you give the link of your
      tutorial?
If you can’t make a good tutorial then just remove your pathetic
      comment from here!

first look at my comment. i said my IDEA is stolen. i didn’t say that work is stolen. and these two references of he-man i personally gave to someone whom i believe as brother. While he took references from me why he didn’t tell me that he will make a tutorial of this and put it on cgtuts+. At that time if he would have asked me that he want to publish he-man toy model concept of mine as tutorial on any site i would never have said no. and why should i say no don’t put it on any site to make tutorial. Tutorial is for learning any one can learn. AND ANY ONE CAN MODEL THE SAME CONCEPT. but why he didn’t tell me that he want references to put it as tutorial on cgtuts+, so that i personally not approach straight to cgtuts and make money. So here i am hurt of betraying. and as far as this modeler is concerned i have not made any false statement about her. Its good she is scripting a tutorial. and even i request her to put one final model here so that i can criticize my work. and i highly apologize i i hurt someone.

What idea you are talking about puneet! Do you think it was your idea? Then why didn’t you approach CGTuts yourself? Who stopped you? Can someone stop me from mailing to CGTuts+ ? Its quite ridiculous puneet! If your sent ideas are not accepted then why are you blaming others? If you have guts then who stops you from making tutorials and money?
And stop harping it as ‘My Idea’ all the time. Ben has already made you clear about what is called the Real and Original Idea. You have not produced something which was not made earlier or you have its copyright, right!
Stop behaving like kids, grow up and act like a professional.

        You’re just being ridiculous.

    • RAHUL KUMAR LOVE

This is a ridiculous allegation Puneet, and I agree with Abhishek Kumar Thakur.
If you have made the tutorial first, then show it and prove your point. We all
make models seeing references on Net, and it doen’t prove us thieves. You should
claim for right things. If you have made any tutorial like this, show the link.
Otherwise remove your comment. It insults the author.

      Hi Puneet,

Thanks for your comment and for including a link to your render. But as Abhishek and Rahul have already stated, your claim that Soni has stolen or plagiarized your work is completely unfounded. While you may have created a model of the He-Man action figure, it does not mean you own the rights to it in any way, because it is a real world object and not based on your own design.

By your logic, you’re essentially saying if anyone chooses to model a real world object, then no other artist has the right to create it for themselves. For example if an artist chose to model a BMW M3 (a popular choice among 3D modelers) does that mean they own the rights to that car and no other artist could ever create a tutorial showing how to model it? That really makes no sense!

Following that rational further, you could be accused of stealing the idea for your model from the artist that originally designed He-Man, or the sculptor that created the prototype of the physical action figure, because they obviously had the idea before you. Does that make any logical sense?

If you had personally created an unique piece of character concept art and then decided to create a 3D model of that concept, or a tutorial based around it. And then another artist came along and used your image to create their own tutorial without your permission. Then yes, you would absolutely be justified in claiming your work had been stolen.

But in this case, Soni has done nothing wrong and is not infringing on your work in any way. This tutorial was commissioned nearly a year ago and is based solely on reference images of the real world He-Man action figure (as you can see above) and two blueprint images she has drawn herself.

So I can not see how you feel she has stolen your idea or work in any way.

as far as i think this matter here been discussed is not about copying
work. it happens everywhere . but what the matter i think is personl
with sm1 whom puneet talking about, i read his stanza ,, “” these two references of he-man i personally gave to someone whom i
believe as brother. While he took references from me why he didn’t tell
me that he will make a tutorial of this and put it on cgtuts+. At that
time if he would have asked me that he want to publish he-man toy model
concept of mine as tutorial on any site i would never have said no. and
why should i say no don’t put it on any site to make tutorial. Tutorial
is for learning any one can learn. AND ANY ONE CAN MODEL THE SAME
CONCEPT. but why he didn’t tell me that he want references to put it as
tutorial on cgtuts+, so that i personally not approach straight to
cgtuts and make money. So here i am hurt of betraying. “” .

    So
puneet as Sejal said “” Stop behaving like kids, grow up and act like a
professional.”" so just grow up . lolz. this world is full of fake
people around. So never ever share your views with any1. gotcha buddy.
stay relax dude.. i can understand here that what you mean by stealing your idea means your views are stolen. but you can’t do anything dear ………

  • RAHUL KUMAR LOVE

This is a very good tutorial series started on CGTuts+. Great going Soni .

  • Ran Ben Avraham

Regardless of the alleged shady past of this model/references/idea, this is an excellent model! great job.

  • Xandercorp

Lol, copyright claims over something they don’t even own. Only in India… Meanwhile in Pakistan…
