the render itself is nowhere near photorealistic, but the model is good

    • Madhan_2005
      Author

Ya this is just the modeling tutorial so I just made a preview render for you all to see how the model looks. When the rendering part comes up,you will see the photo realistic image.

      • chris

thats cool, but I would recommend putting up the actual final render, because I’m thinking of switching to premium and this tutorial might make me want to, and I want to see what I actually get.

  • Hasan

The download of the tutorial does not seem to be working for me, when i try and open the 3ds max scene file it displays an error. The video link also doesn’t work.

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Hasan,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues. I’ve just gone through and double checked the videos and everything seems to be working here – which video in-particular isn’t working for you? Regarding the scene file, that too works on my system; is there any chance it could have been a corrupted download? If you could double-check one last time and let me know, we’ll go from there!

      Thanks,

      Matt

  • Zachary O’Connor

I am having the same problem as Hasan.

  • ElFoReal

    Can’t download videos 7 tru 12.
    I got 1 to 6 but the “day2″ videos won’t download.

The scene file isn’t working either!!

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi ElFoReal,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble, I’ve just checked it on my system and it everything seems to work as expected. Could you perhaps let me know the exact error you’re getting for the videos and the scene file? Also, if you right-click the download link and click ‘Save Target As’/'Save Link As’, can you download then?

      Thanks,

      Matt

Sorry guys for the commotion. I can assure you that Matt will figure it out ASAP.

  • thomas

donwloaded last screencast but it doesn’t work…it’s only a small mp4 file. Could you please check?

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Thomas,

Sorry to hear you were having trouble. I’ve gone in and re-uploaded the file just to make sure that it wasn’t in any way corrupted. If you could try downloading again and if you still have any issues, let me know and I’ll do what I can to sort the problem!

      Thanks,

      Matt

      • thomas

thanks for reply Matt, now it’s working fine and i’m downloading the video ;)

    Hi there,

I can’t acces to the member area since the last two days. I didn’t find a way to contact with the responsible so write it here. I have dowloaded almost all parts of this tutorial but now I’m not able to enter to the member content (when I log in it says: Page not found). Its kind of strange but I believe you have some problems running here on this site, because it’s not the first problem I had…

Hopefully you can check the problem.

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Alex,

I’m sorry to hear about your problem logging in. Let’s get to the bottom of this! So you can access the login page (http://tutsplus.com/premium-program/) but as soon as you log in, it doesn’t redirect to the content, but instead gives you an error?

      Thanks,

      Matt

      • Alex

I finally was able to enter to the member area and I have now succesfully downloaded the last file I needed. I had problems with the Google Chrome Browser and also with the Firefox. It always appeared a redirecting to protected area dialog but finally the browser doesn’t linked me to the mentioned content. Desperately I tried with the IE 8 which in the past was always my last choice for other issues but this time for this usage it was the only browser who worked… xD
The only problem is that a week ago I dowloaded with Firefox and now it is causing trouble…

I have no idea what’s wrong but it might be my computer who isn’t working how it should…

        Anyway thanks for this tutorial.

      • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

I’m glad you finally managed to download it, and I hope you enjoy it! I’ll look further into the problems you’ve been having, and if I find anything out I’ll let you know.

        Thanks,

        Matt

  • dizturbd

I just signed up for premium today and can’t access the premium content of this tutorial. When I log in, the site still asks if I want to sign in to premium. What’s the deal?

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Tom,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. If you go to this page : http://tutsplus.com/premium-program/ , and sign in using your new Username/Password, do you still get an error? We’ll make sure you get access asap!

      Thanks,

      Matt

  • dizturbd

    Matt and Aaron,

Neither of those solutions worked for me. I am able to log in to premium content, but this tutorial and a few others have a grey font instead of the clickable orange font on the premium content list. How can I access this tutorial? It’s the main reason I signed up for premium.

    Thanks

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Dizturbd,

Sorry that you’re still having a problem. If you click the Cgtuts+ link on the right hand side of the Premium page, you should be able to see a feed of all of this site’s Premium tutorials. If you do that, can you see the Video links?

      Thanks,

      Matt

  • Joe

hey madhan is there any chance for the rendering part that you use mental ray insted of Vray, i really want to achieve good renders of this good model but i don’t have vray.

  • dizturbd

This is just insane. I’ve tried Firefox and IE. I am able to download screencast 6 and the reference material, but that is all. How can I obtain the first 5 screencasts?

    Thanks for the help.

  • dizturbd

This is all I am able to see…

    http://img375.imageshack.us/f/audir8cgtuts1.jpg/

When I select read tutorial, it still asks if I want to join premium. Am I doing something wrong?

  • madhan_2005
    Author

Hey joe, I am going to use mental ray for rendering. Who told I am about to use vray

  • Funky Monk

    Hi,

I’m working on the Audi R8 Modelling tutorial. I can’t download the day 2 video files. In fact I can’t even see the links! All I can see is the end of day 1 – Sceen Cast 6 which I downloaded about 3 weeks ago. I’m assuming the rest of the videos have been posted to the site as I’ve read through other users comments and although it seems some people are having download issues – I have read that there are videos 7-12 available. If so, please provide me with a link to them.

I have looked through the beginning tutorials and it doesn’t seem like an accurate way to create the mesh. The geometry looks all over the place and even though it may look “alright” from a distance when looked at in detail a lot of the geometry doesn’t match up that well with a real Audi. I thought the tutorial was going to be more accurate. I’m looking forward to seeing how the basic geometry that I have will turn in to the final mesh. Do you have any tutorials on creating cars using nurbs or power nurbs? Surely using nurbs would be quicker and more accurate?

  • Pavanrzx

    Awesome Tutorial :D
Is This The Last Day Of The Tutorial?
Cos Am Planning To Get A Premium Account…..

  • Paul

    Hi,

Does this tutorial include the modelling for the interior of the car?

    Cheers..

  • Richard

When do we get the rest of the videos seems like ages since the last ones

    • http://www.badgrenola.com Matt Brealey

      Hi Richard,

The author had to work on an unexpected project but rest assured the next part is on it’s way very soon :)

      Thanks,

      Matt

  • Alldin Dauti

Ive managed to download the part 1 to 12, but shouldn’t there be a leason where you show how to model the tires, windows, backlights? Because the 12th part ends with front lights…but I cant find the ones after 12.

    Please help

    • Alldin Dauti

Oh sorry, nvm my comment… =)

    • madhan_2005
      Author

      Guys,
I’m sorry to say this but I got hooked up with an unexpected project that prevents me from posting the tut ASAP. I’m trying hard to complete the tut so you should see the tut posted in 3-4 weeks time. Sorry for the delay guys. Hope you understand

      • Alldin Dauti

        We understand =)

  • tpaw

Well.. It’s been more than a month now, and I’m certainly waiting and looking forward to the next part :D
Any news or ETA on the next part?

    Thanks!

  • Dunf

Yes. Need Day 3 ASAP. Bought premium just for this tut.

  • Sosai

Ok the videos are working, if others are having problems just download vlc media player or cccp. Both will play those video files. But my problem with this tutorial is that it seems to be very how do you say unorthodox; I guess a better way to say it is sloppy. I’m not trying to offend but this tutorial doesn’t give a very clear explanation of what you’re doing while just making random tweaks here and there.

    • madhan_2005
      Author

I understant what you are trying to say but it all depends on the preference of the user. I have said in the tut that those tweaks have to do with the actual surface flow of the car. So you must have a clear knowledge of how the car looks in the final image. Its all up to you to make those tweaks just to make sure there aren’t any bumps in the car.

As for day 3 I have already submitted the files and its taking some delay posting them in the site. you can see day 3 before feb.

      • aros

its february and still no day 3.

      • madhan_2005
        Author

I am extremely sorry for the delay, the tutorial has been already submitted to the editor and I think he might have some hosting problems. please be patient it will be there any time now.

      • http://www.bentateonline.com Ben Tate

        Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay getting day 3 of this posted. I know everyone has been waiting for a long time to see the final two parts to this series!

Regarding the delay. I’m not exactly sure what the holdup has been, as I’ve just started the editor position and I can not speak for Matt or Madhan. Although I can assure you that there must have been a good reason for it.

Personally I’ve only received the files this past week, and I have already scheduled it in. So day 3 will be up next week!

        Cheers!
        Ben

  • Nathan

Hi just wondered if there was any update of day 3 tutorial for the r8 tutorial? lookin forward to the next part

  • ohmz

bought premium package for this tut, you need to put up day 3 asap because i dont see the reason for waiting if you are charging people to see premium content!!!!!

    • http://www.christateonline.com Chris Tate
      Staff

Day 3 of the Audi R8 tutorial will be up very soon!

      Cheers!

  • Dunf

Fail my Premium ran out before they could upload this last part. Oh well the tutorial isnt that great anyways. The front grille should be curved as the Audi R8′s arent flat in the front grille. :(

  • Most dissatisfied customer!

Where is day 3? It’ been almost half a year since day 2 was released, utter tripe! I’m def not renewing my subscription until it’s published and if there’s a repeat of this claptrap with day 4 then I doubt I’ll ever subscribe again! Balderdash!

    • http://www.christateonline.com Chris Tate

Again very sorry for the delay!

As mentioned above, I’m not sure what has caused the delay in the release of Day 3. As I have only just taken over the editor position.

However, Day 3 of the Audi R8 tutorial will be released next week! and Day 4 is set to be published early next month!

Sorry again, I know everyone is eagerly awaiting the final two parts, but unfortunately this is the earliest we can possible get them out.

  • bartosz

could anyone post a link to 4 separate files for for the blueprints or maybe a short guide how to cut the big GIF into 4 pieces with matching size (in photoshop or sth). thanks.

  • bartosz

well, problem solved and sorry for spamming. for those who still don’t know how to deal with one gif file as the blueprint: open it in PS, enter custom values for rectangular selection marquee tool: Back/Front: 753×466 px and adjust to the proper part of the car (back and front), copy the selection to a new file and save with a proper name. Do the same with Side (1644×466 px) and Top (1644 x753 px). You should have 4 files for each side. Disregard this post if you think it was ‘obvious’ :D

  • Sam Fisher

Awesome tutorial. Pushed my 3D max skills way high… But i’m eagerly waiting for the last two parts or atleast the 3rd part for now…
