    thanks for your great tuts,
first of all I’m very glad to know you that u are doing the grate work by giving this type of tutorials for beginners! in addition i just want to ask you that i can’t do it in max…

you select an object’s edge after conv. it in poly(make it ring) and than select Polygon option and max select all poly of the object in ring situation. how you do it just make me know about it. Sir…

    that’s great help for me!

Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into these tutorials. I just found CGTuts, and must say that this site is the place to be. You and your brother are a must have for any 3ds max user. You dont skip over anything, and that definitely helps aspiring artists to do thier best. Thank you.

  • ed

Ankit, if I understand you correctly, you are having a problem selecting specific polygons from edges. He is stating to CTRL click polygon. Make sure you are holding down the CTRL key when clicking polygon. This will allow you to select the polygons from edges. It works on verts too…good luck. I just finished the tut. It was very informative

Another great tutorial. Many thanks Ben! Out of curiosity, did you and your brother teach yourselves 3d or did you guys attend a school that offered classes for 3d modeling?

  • Gustavo

hey man, really nice tutorial, you were right into the point and was quick.
but, for that ”bownl” (or whatever the name is) fountain you could have used a proboolean…
    easy and simple.

    regards

Great tutorial, honestly I think you and Chris are the best tutorial authors here for Max. I’ve tried several tutorials on this site and nobody is as precise and easy to follow as you two, and best of all the stuff you make is really detailed too. I appreciate how you guys go over every detail with a fine comb, most videos I watch the guy is like “Okay and extrude this to about that much, then move these to around here” but you and Chris are like “We’re gonna chamfer these three edges to…let’s say .15 and again to maybe .08″ and it’s just so much easier to follow. I hope you guys do some more tutorials in the future.

Great tutorial! Only two “oups” or so, in such a detailed presentation, that must be some kind of record..! It was quite inspirating, Forgive my ignorance but I’m curious, what “device” do you use to rotate the view? Keep up with the great work, thanks from France.

  • MIHAI

    Hi Ben,

Great tut. Tell me please, why do you “keep away” from use Boolean or Proboolean? You said this two mess up the mesh, if i’m not wrong. Can you explain please?
By the way, Noah is wright in his comment: your tuts are easy to follow.

    Thank you.

  • Pedram

thanks for the great tutorial ,
For some reason I am not able to download the reference images from my university. I was wondering if someone could either email it to me or uploaded it to different site so I can download it . I would very much appreciate. pedramjon@gmail.com

  • Keil baker

i have followed this brilliant tutorial to the inch but i don’t no have no alpha channel and its annoying me how can this be sorted ?

      Hi Keil,

In order to get an alpha channel, you’ll need to render the model out and save it in a image format that supports alpha channel information, such as a .tif, .png or .tga. If you’re doing an animation, you’ll need to render it out as an image sequence in one of the formats mentioned above, to have the alpha channel included for animation purposes.

      Cheers,
      Ben
