How to Create a Realistic Candle Scene with 3ds Max and FumeFX

This entry is part 3 of 14 in the Evan Schaible Session
« PreviousNext »

When dealing with FumeFX, and other effects generating tools, it can be said that knowing how to convincingly merge your effects into your 3d scene is just as important as knowing how to create the effects themselves. In this tutorial we will take a look at a little explored area of FumeFX, at least when it comes to tutorials, multi-pass compositing.

We will study this subject inside of Toxic, Autodesk’s HD compositing package, and create render passes specific to FumeFX. We will also take another look at how to make an elegant candle flame and add it to a scene inside of 3DS Max.

thanks a lot evan this is amazing tut the video work well , i have a question please .how can i find fx fume to work with it in 3ds max 9 ?

  7. I am pretty sure that the newest versions are backwards compatible. 1.5 should work with 9, but if not you may want to send an email to sitni sati as im sure that they can dig into legacy versions for you.

  8. Cube01 says:

I actually re-uploaded the newest version of the video early in the week but there still seems to be a problem. I don’t believe it is an issue with the video however, and am currently waiting for Bliptv to reply to my tech support ticket. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully we will have this resolved soon.

Thank you for your attempts to make this work. And thanks for your tutorials Evan, they help me a lot. I am currently searching for your Training DVDs. Keep up the good work!

    Hi,

I am sure this must be a very nice tutorial but it would be great if we could get more step-by-step tutorials as it is so much easy to go back and forth while making these things for easy reference.

    Thank you so much!

    Kind regards,
    Blue Rose

  22. Silver Wolf says:

I’d be grateful if this had some written instructions as the school computers don’t allow video downloads. And this is one of the better looking flames I’ve come across in a tutorial

  23. Reaver Daniel says:

    Hi there!

This tutorial is very interresting, but i cannot find where to get the files you use from. If you haven’t posted them yet, can you please share them? It is very hard to pickup the scene if one doesn’t have those files and it`d make things much more easier for the rest!

    Kind regards,
    Daniel
