Final Product What You'll Be Creating
In this tutorial we’ll Model, UVMap and Texture a high poly Ballistic Shield in 3d Studio Max 2012. Throughout the project we’ll make extensive use of many of Max’s built in modeling tools and modifiers to create the shield. Once we have the high-res model constructed, we’ll go through a manual optimization process to significantly reduce the poly count before moving onto uvmapping and texturing in Days 2 & 3.

Always you rock with the video tutors thanks for this man!!! :D
Good one!!
Any chance you can make a mapping and texturing part, more specificaly how to create difuse, specular, and specially the normal map (baked one).
Thanks
Is so cool and so easy to follow
Thanks a lot.
I’ve made mine in Blender, following this tutorial:))
I got the same question as Iani Stoyanov. Is there going to be a mapping and texturing part?
Once again i thank you .
love cg.tutsplus :)
Great simple tut for noobs like me hehe. Thanks Ben… The Tate Tuts are always my favs
btw yes guys he said at the end of Day 1 he would be mapping it in Day 2
Great tutorials as per usual.
I seem to get this problem a lot, when I try to download the file it just loads in a new window? Is this something I am doing wrong or have set up wrong?
Great tutorial, as always. Finding it very easy to speed through (thanks in large part to your and your brother’s other tutorials!), but still enjoying the practice and picking up some new things.
Looking forward to the texturing part, as it looks like you’ve achieved a really precise/clean finish, which I usually have trouble with.
Thanks!
Where’s the UV Mapping & Texturing part? :C
Hey Man,
The UVMapping part should be up on site by the end of this week. And I’m hoping to get the Texturing section up the following week :)
Ben
how to change from the slate material editor to the normal
Hey Akhi,
Go to the “Modes” menu in the top left corner of the Slate material editor and choose “Compact Material Editor…”. You can change back to the Slate Editor anytime by following the same process and choosing “Slate Material Editor”.
Cheers,
Ben
is there a way to download the video for this tut. when i click on download, it opens another tab and starts playing the video
Hey Derek,
If you right click on the “Part” link and go to “Save Link As…” it should let you save the video to your hard drive :)
Cheers!
Ben
Your tutorials are awesome, thanks for it.
Only think which is a little bit anoying are your loud mouse-clicks :)
Why do you optimize the model like that? Isn’t it easier to just remove the TurboSmooth modifiers and edit the low-poly mesh?
That’s what I’m doing.
Nevermind, looks like this is not for games. :P (Your optimized mesh looks high-poly for games)
Thank you very much !! Finally done with all 5 videos. Learned so much new things since im a beginnerXD and it was really easy to understand tutorial. Please do more tutorial If you have time.
Gotta texture the shield now^^
i realy like your teaching lesson.
