In this multi-part, hard surface modeling, texturing, and rendering tutorial, you will learn how to quickly create a realistic looking Nokia 5800. The techniques shown in this tutorial can easily be applied to other 3d applications, and the methods of making the phone itself are fast, and very efficient. Though the resulting mesh will not be perfect, the final render will still look great, thus the goal of this tutorial is not to teach you how to make a perfect mesh, but to teach you a trick or two about fast and efficient modeling.

I just wish this tut was on Cinema 4d…

Me to. Al lot of the controls in 3ds max are a lot like Cinema. Its actually a great exercise to try to follow along in another software. If you know the basics you can figure out the rest.

HALLELUJAH!
Just when I thought Envato had fallen behind the curve on cellphone tutorials, you drop this bomb on me!
Not only have continued this epic tradition of making a tutorial about cellphones, but you’ve up’d the ante and enveloped this brilliance in 3D!
Bravo Envato. *slow clap*

This was a great tutorial. There’s going to be a second part for the texturing right? That’s what I am most interested in. I found this link and I’ve been really trying to wrap my head around how this result was achieved.

Hey!
Nice tutorial, thanks you for sharing your knowledge.
Some of you could find a lots of usefull blueprints here http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/phones/ but unfortunatly not the Nokia 5800…
So you can check here for orthographic images http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_navigation_edition-pictures-2906.php (almost the same mobile phone) and here http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_xpressmusic-3d-spin-2537.php for a usefull turn around.
Nonetheless, if someone had the real refs, it would be appreciated.

( )Jools October 25th
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. It’s easy to follow, love the shortcuts and your modelling speed. Very insipring for fast results without bothering too much about having a clean mesh. I always try to have 100% quad models and I waste way too much time.
Looking forward to more tutorials from you.

Thank you for a really great tutorial. I use Maya but its easy enough to apply the same technique. I really need a tutorial on texturing a phone so it looks realistic though, so im hoping you will continue this tutorial very soon.
I’m busy trying to model the Nokia Nibiru concept phone, im having some issues lol
Thank you again for your effort!
( )Timothy November 6th

( )Isaac November 11th
I found the images but i want to know how to separate them. Its all one big image. Did you use Autodesk to do it or some other photo-editing program, for example paint.net, or Photoshop?
( )Phuong November 12th
I can’t download the videos : /… anyone having the same problem?
( )John Doe February 1st
Yea, links are dead!
( )Kaleb Aylsworth February 2nd
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Both the Flash players and the links are working fine.
