Nice tutorial!

BTW, Blender 2.5 will be Beta software, and it's functionality won't fully match 2.49 until some time near the end of the year (at the earliest). Even then, it will still be Beta software until after the Durian Project in the Spring of 2010. These are details from the creator of Blender, Ton Roosendaal.

In fact, the Blender Foundation is recommending that real documentation should begin at the Beta 2 phase which occurs at the end of December into January. You can get more info at BlenderNation:
http://www.blendernation.com/blender-developers-meeting-notes-7/

I just think it's important for people to fully understand the true nature of Blender 2.5 development. There's been quite a bit of hype concerning its development timeline that might result in some degree of disappointment in the early phases of its Beta releases. When it's finally ready, it'll be awesome, but that time is later than sooner.

Thanks for the tutorial. It is the best one I have found for the blender interface and taught me a few things that I didn't already know.

Hey Karan,

thanks for this great blender interface basics tutorial!
I always learn something new from all the tutorials i see and yours definetly helped me alot in many terms (introduction to yafaray, setting up scenes etc).

So i wanna say much appreciation for your effort and dedication and the best luck for your further projects!
Much regards

if u want a plane like karan had just add a plane, tab into edit mode, select all vertices with a key,
hit the w-key and choose subdivide multi, determine the number of divisions to get the ammount of subdivisions u like and u have it:)

the oter choice of subdivision would be subdivide (makes just a single cut)
and subdivide multi fractal (gives a randomness in value the vertices and results in a nonflat surface wich in some case comes in handy if u need a variation instead of a flat plane)
Hope this can help
Regards

you can check out how 'suzanne' the monkey is modeled by adding it to your scene with space bar, add mesh->monkey,
(its includde in blender as some kind of mascot or whatever so its along the primitives that u can add)

by default it is set to solid and not subsurfed or modified in any way, so u can see a very lowpoly version of the monkey, however the way it was modeled from scratch (rather boxmodelling or modelled poly by poly etc.) can't be determined that way, guess it would require to have a reference picture of it if there was any,

Anyway maybe this well you a bit, since i'm not sure if there will be a tutorial about suzanne in the near future (maybe there already was one but i'm not aware of it)

Best regards

How did you create the flat surface at about the 13min mark of the video?

How did you create the plane that you were modifying in the video...? When I add a plane I always get a simple square?
