Rmove those videos of min NOW you did not ask permission and they are shared on partner sites only that has ASKED.
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 9th
Removed.
( )Tony Jackson November 22nd
I’m sure there are better ways of dealing with this situation than going off the deep end like this. I imagine it would have been perfectly easy to have contacted cgtuts directly and sorted it out behind the scenes, instead of this heavy handed public outburst. You just sound like a twat.
( )Darran Jones November 7th
W00t! First comment, hehe
Thanks for these, I’ve just started taking a look at Mudbox rather than ZBrush so this is really useful.
( )aleksey November 7th
wayne, you need to chill =)
it’s just a link, no one is actually hosting anything.
and you should probably just email the moderator and ask nicely, while specifically mentioning the tutorials that are causing you grief
( )CGarena November 7th
Remove the videos you posted from our site immediately. We gave no permission for you to use them, what made you think you could?
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 8th
@CGarena – We sincerely apologize for not requesting your advance permission to include links to your tutorials in our roundup. We would like to ask at this time, however, that you reconsider your request to have them removed, as we are not hosting the videos ourselves in an attempt to steal your potential readership, but simply directing our readers to your site by making them aware of your wonderful resources.
( )Topher Welsh November 8th
I can assure you that I meant no harm, only to direct more traffic to your’s and Wayne’s sites to give a highly complete list of Mudbox tutorials from around the internet.
I didn’t know that you would require permission to post outbound links from our site to yours, and we would never host a tutorial, provide a download, or try to steal material from those that have created it.
We hold CGArena, Wayne, and MudboxHub in high regard and that is why I included your training in this roundup. Like Kaleb, I am also requesting that you reconsider having them removed, because it is all about educating those that haven’t found the tutorials yet. My whole intention is to get you both more readers, views, and for the community as a whole to grow.
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 9th
They have been removed.
( )John Holt November 8th
Which one should I purchase Mudbox or ZBrush? Lord knows I can’t afford both.
( )Mark Jobe November 8th
For what it’s worth I had never heard of Wayne Robson up until today. Probably only because i use different software. I do however look at CgTuts and AETuts every day and now that i’m aware of his site i will be checking back with it regularly as i think i can crossover the principals that he teaches into the software i use.
( )Partaboy November 9th
If you are Maya user, you’ll propably be more at home with Mudbox.
( )Nico Harttto November 10th
If you are a student, the Maya, 3DS, mudbox, motionbuilder -bundle is a magnificent deal. Something like 100euros for 13month license, and 200-300 euros for permanent license – non-commercial I guess, but it’s still a great deal.
( )Cédric November 10th
oh, WRob…i have to say i am really disappointed in his behaviour, especially considering his background, oh well, working with autodesk must grow big wings quiclky. Sad really he didn’t reconsider your offer…
( )Topher Welsh November 10th
Yes, it is too bad he didn’t reconsider, there really were a lot of great resources to be had from him and CGarena. I don’t understand the reasoning, but we have to respect the wishes of those that get their content **LINKED** to.
( )danchez November 10th
yeah.. autodesk employees.. what they remind me… yes i know… autodesk!
( )maybe someone should tell them that drawing atention to their products is actualy free advertisement…
Rix November 11th
Just to be clear Wayne Robson is not an Autodesk Employee
( )danchez November 13th
well.. he behaves like one..
danchez November 10th
hey, google, remove links to our site imediately!
( )foobar November 11th
If it’s only a link, Wayne has no grounds to request removal. If you used artwork or pictures, that would be a problem.
( )Gerald November 11th
Wayne is NOT an Autodesk employee. Never has been, probably never will.
I wonder if Autodesk gave him permission to use thier logos all over his site?
People like this really annoy me.
( )Wayne Robson November 14th
yes they did….and I require the quickstart series to be seen in a certain order in order to be effective to people to their maximum. As they are mine I can to be blunt request them to be withheld anywhere I wish as I retain coywrite on all of my videos. So legally I have every right. They are never allowed to be included on any site without my approval as ALL tuts should be regardless of author, and not just harvested.
Thankyou for removing them but please remember just because something is recorded and put out for free does not mean it can be put onto any site without the authors permission. I’d have hoped you would contact every artist who’s videos you use before adding them.
Not one person in charge here contacted me about this in advance THAT is what I object to…..no one asked. Added to this I never allow the videos to be mixed up or added with ones not part of the series. To me this matter is now closed and thanks for removing them at my request. There are quite a few guys in the same position as me that are very unhappy with teh links to vids without being asked. Just take a look at the comments about it on twitter a few days back.
As regards my position this link may enlighten people a bit: http://bit.ly/2ripbx

So what’s your motivation for producing your website (which shall not be named to avoid any whining)?
- To assist the 3D community? – How was that compromised by a couple of links on ‘cg|tutes’ to your site (which shall not be named to avoid any whining)? Oh yeah, it wasn’t.
- To generate personal revenue? – How was that compromised by a couple of links on ‘cg|tutes’ to your site (which shall not be named to avoid any whining)? Oh yeah, it wasn’t.
- For self-promotion? – How was that compromised by a couple of links on ‘cg|tutes’ to your site (which shall not be named to avoid any whining)? Oh yeah, that may have been affected by your own public outburst and unpleasant expression here. Congrats.
And thanks to ‘cg|tutes’ for allowing ‘Wayne’ here to display what an unreasonable and unpleasant individual he really is; I’ll be sure to avoid any and all links, sites, and references to his precious site in the future.
Best.
Riki November 19th
Please link to more eat3d tutorials NOW! Im upset that there arent more links to our videos! (heavy sarcasm of course).
Seriously though, pointing to where the videos are legally hosted is called FREE ADVERTISING. The more people who watch your content, the more people will know you exist and hopefully purchase other videos.
Think about it mate, you really WANT every site out there linking to your stuff dont you?? How is living in a cave good for business?
( )sfxwarrior November 22nd
I can’t agree more with Riki.
One thing is for sure Wayne, if you can’t handle free advartising then you don’t deserve it.
@Kakeb, great staff man, if you ever find staff from me please DO post them as you wish (but also email me a link so I can brag about it).
( )ivander November 22nd
whow! seriously, big disappointment on Wayne Robson, he does great videos, but the way he handled this… tsk, tsk, it’s 2009 people… videos weren’t hosted here and many people heard from you for the first time checking this post.
Not cool.
( )mike k! November 22nd
Zbrushes learning curve is steep but it will pay off in the long run.
( )Caleb November 23rd
Wow, great Tuts!
Just getting into mudbox and these are really helping me out!
Thanks
( )Rob Wu November 24th
I agree with Wayne here.
First of all it’s just common courtesy to -ASK- before you do something like this. Even though he put the videos on his site for free so everybody can watch them, that doesn’t mean you can just grab stuff and put it on your own site.
Also, relinking will generate a lot of traffic, traffic that still has to be paid for.
Secondly, all the comments here just show how people became to expect that everything on the Internet is for free and for the taking without any consequences.
You all know it isn’t so, but will blatantly ignore this until it hits you in the face. And then the complaining starts.
Just grow a pair and do the right thing, ASK next time and you might get a more positive response.
Trust me, it’s no fun finding your work(links) scattered all over the Internet without your knowledge.
Peace,
rob
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 24th
I’m sorry Rob, but I must disagree with your disagreement. First of all, although it may be courteous to ask before you do something, it is just not logistically possible to obtain written permission from every author whose tutorial you would like to include in a list, and since nothing was actually “grabbed” here, we do not need permission to link to another site, and actually only removed the link in the name of honoring a request. The only thing that would have been wrong of us to do, is to physically TAKE the tutorials, and then make them available on our site, thereby depriving Wayne of due credit…which we obviously did not do.
( )Rob Wu November 24th
So…. Because you don’t want to go through the ‘hassle’ of asking permission, you just ‘grab’ the info.
As far as I know, this is still not allowed.
But like I said, people nowadays just think everything on the Net is just for grabs without any consequences. Because something is posted on the web as free, that doesn’t mean you can do with it as you like.
There’s a copyright and All Rights Reserved mention at the bottom of Wayne his video page, What do you think that means??
And it has nothing to do with ‘free advertising’, when you don’t know where you’re information is posted who knows how it ends up.
But this is a discussion I will never win, reading all the responses and your disagreement.
( )Riki November 24th
Yo Rob, how hard is it to understand that no information was “grabbed”, only pointed to.
Notice the logic here, Advertising is pointing to a product, most people pay for this kind of thing. This site pointed to a tutorial, people then go to watch that tutorial.
Please understand the simplicity here and leave those poor straw men alone!
You wont see CGArena over here complaining about this because they actually DEPEND on people to point to anything on their site which brings traffic, which brings advertisers and so on.
If Wayne wanted to even attempt to prevent this he first needs to not post it on a public news outlet like CGArena, and 2nd he needs to host it on his own site stating clearly that he is in the .01% minority on this planet that doesnt want people linking to his stuff.
I guess the next step for you guys is to contact google and demand that they remove the links to the videos, I mean, how dare they!
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 25th
@ Rob – You are right, just ‘grabbing’ someone else’s intellectual property is not allowed, but once again…nothing was ‘grabbed’ at all. The term ‘All rights reserved” refers to copyrights, and copyrights in turn refer to publication and re-distribution rights. Since nothing was published, re-distributed, sold, or otherwise profited from…there can be no copyright infringement. Basically, you make it sound as though Wayne had a store, and then we went into the store, stole his product off the shelf, and then put in on our shelf to try to drawn in more customers, when in actuality, it’s more like we had a store with an established customer base, and then one of our customers asked us where to find the product that Wayne’s store was selling….so we gave them directions to get there.
Additionally, we have published dozens of tutorial roundups since the sites inception, and each of those contain between 50 – 100 links. Out of all those hundreds of tutorials, Wayne is the only author ever to object, while conversely, we have received dozens of comments and letters from authors thanking us for including their tutorials in our lists. So although Wayne, and now you, may feel that publishing a link to your work is somehow disrespectful or otherwise affecting you in a negative way, I can say from experience that an overwhelming majority of the community does not share those sentiments.
( )Riki November 24th
My mistake, CGArena did complain. I still find it odd that they complained to remove the link to the video, when the top 3 links on this page point to other cgarena videos!
( )Riki November 24th
I just re-read my posts and I dont want to come off like a jerk so I do apologize if anyone was offended. I dont mean to disrespect anyone and Wayne a great artist and instructor, I wish him and everyone else the best and hopefully he will reconsider.
( )Alan November 25th
Perhaps Kaleb your fundamental idea of grabbing links and posting them without authors permission is a flawed business plan. A very nice idea but flawed just the same.
So I agree with Wayne and CG Arena.
As for Autodesk employee’s please don’t get corporate America dogma mixed up with the people who actually work on the products and try to reach out to the public at large. I know most of them personally including Wayne, who is very generous with his knowledge as seen on many forums.
I know the developers and QA’s are on a lot of other forums and give freely of their personal time as well as info on Area, the official web site of Autodesk.
I had the pleasure of being on the Max / Maya / Mudbox teams and I can tell you without a doubt they do try and help as much as they can.
Why such bad sentiment towards them???
Cheers
( )kaleb aylsworth November 25th
@ Alan – I do agree with you that the fundamental plan of posting links to tutorials without first obtaining written permission is not perfect (as nothing is), and I am not trying to say that I don’t care whether an artist objects to us posting links to their work…it’s actually quite the opposite…and precisely the reason why we honored Wayne’s request immediately. But the fact of the matter is, that most of the artists are happy to have their work linked to, and the community is very happy to receive these roundups, so for the 1% of artists who do object, it is just makes more sense to remove the links at their request than to overhaul the entire process to the detriment of our readers.
( )Neil Blevins November 25th
Any chance of getting the tutorial by “Nick Blevins” renamed to “Neil Blevins”? Since that is my name
Also, that is an old tutorial, the most recent one is here…
http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/mudbox_2010_to_max/mudbox_2010_to_max.htm
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 25th
Wow, sorry for the typo Neil! Fixed, and new link updated!!
( )Neil Blevins November 29th
Thanks Kaleb!
Neil Blevins November 29th
Hmm, actually, it looks like the link hasn’t updated yet, and the picture is now gone. Any ideas?
Kaleb Aylsworth November 29th
Fixed for sure this time!!:)
Andy November 25th
To be honest i really dont understand what all the fuss is about.
( )All CGTuts did was link to externally hosted tutorials.
If the same links were posted on a forum, would there be such a massive backlash by the authors?
I think not.
When someone creates and posts anything of value on the internet for free, it is inevitable that a its going to create a stir and therefore its going to get talked about.
I know if i find a tutorial that is awesome, i tell everyone i know so they can benefit from it too.
Darren November 28th
Ouch. After all this work, the best we can get is a bunch of bitching about who linked to who. I believe that Wayne has a valid point (now i’m in) I would think that his work stays where HE believes he can get as much usage from said work. What I mean by this is, he and other artist put tons of time into these tutorials, and demonstrations. Time IS money. They have websites, marketing initiatives, etc. Again, this costs money. They put these products out on the market for free too, and heres the kicker, to drive people to THEIR sites or sites of their choosing. Not the other way around. So, the right thing to do, is make contact with the artist, as it may result in a great relationship, but also respect of the authors work. I am not sure of the laws, but, aren’t we ALL artist up here? so shouldn’t w already be looking out for each other? I think we should all make the effort, as really talented people who have done the legwork for us, will stop. And that would suck for all of us. I think we can all agree on that right? God Bless
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 29th
Please don’t get me wrong here, I also agree that Wayne has a valid point, and had every right to ask us to remove the links to his work…which is why we did. But I also know that I personally would not care if another site linked to one of my tutorials, and I know that many of the authors we link to feel the same way.
Furthermore, I want to be clear to everyone that we do look out for our authors, and we certainly value and respect all of the artists that contribute to the growth and success of this wonderful community, and if any author ever objects to us linking to their work, you can be sure that we will honor their requests. But at the end of the day….shouldn’t it really be all about the learners anyways …which is the only reason why these tutorials ought to be created in the first place?
( )Darren November 28th
Ya, I’m with you Andy. Just realized they are all liked to their prospective creators. With that, I think my overall point is that, and this may seem a bit convoluted, but, If I Google, lets say, Mudbox, or better yet, Mudwalker (just saw that he made a plugin called that) I would want to be at the top of that list. If another site eats up all the links, then they would be first in line for that plugin. Wayne may want to drive people to his site for other revenue generating ideas and having his links pushed down the line meens he is possibly loosing that revenue. Quick example: http://www.Drudgereport.com is a site that only aggregates news link from around the world, but based on Drudges SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for Google or any other search engine, and the fact that they have millions of links, Drudge comes up first, over the original creator of the content. So, yes, it may be legal, but I don’t feel that Wayne was really just pissed about that. Now, I don’t know Wayne but this is how I would feel. If I am off and he is truly just mad about the link… then forget everything I just said. Hope that make sense.
( )Kaleb Aylsworth November 29th
An interesting point Darren.
( )Andy November 29th
It looks like the post to which i was replying too in my previous post has vanished :S
Not sure why but i just thought i would point it out, as my post doesnt make sense now

WoW I forgot there was ungrateful people on the net….Why they are so pee’d off at FREE advertising is way beyond me. A few of my C4D tutorials were posted and im utterly grateful to the staff here at cg.tuts without them I wouldnt be getting upto over 100 hits per day (and thats on a quiet day sometimes its as high as 400/500 from this very site alone). I personally love the free advertising especially since I am only trying to help out new users. There goes my idea of getting into mudbox LOL
( )Bella January 23rd
Its funny how people get once they get a little notoriety. I am sure that if Mr. Vain…err sorry…Mr. Wayne where just starting out he would welcome the links but now it seems he is mostly in it for the money. So, if he doesn’t want his stuff linked you HAVE to respect it because after all it is his. Though if linking is such a huge issue to him he should have put something on his website to that effect. People link all the time. If you dont want people doing it then put up a disclaimer.
To me the outbust was a bit childish and we should have never even seen it. For that reason I will find my Mudbox resources else where.
( )pick January 31st
It dosn’t really matter now as the Robson Vids in question have to be purchased now. Even though when he first released them he loudly stated: ” these vids will remain free ALWAYS ” He must have been reprogrammed once ADME got their claws in.
( )This whole linking thing is pretty odd as it’s practically done every single day on the CGT forums whenever folk are seeking help. Frankly it makes no sense whatsoever to whinge about getting extra hits on your site and imo Robson is has gotten WAY too big for his boots and has even come to be somewhat of an outcast in the CG world.
Andy November 28th
I see what you mean but i think the analogy is a little off.
( )Giving out a link to the tutorial is more like telling someone where they can get the newspaper.
If CGTuts had hosted the tutorial without permission then that would be illegal (would be akin to reprinting) but they just pointed to another host, where the file was held legally.
Dont get me wrong, i respect the rights of artists and the work that they produce, but i really cant see a problem with linking to the tutorials as long as they are hosted legally.
The UK and USA allow the use of Copyrighted material for “Inclusion for the purpose of news reporting” under fair use where asking the owners permission is impracticable and it is clear that the fair use doctrine applys
But that being said, it was Waynes call on this one and I respect his decision and right to have them removed
