Definitely 3ds max tutorials. Maybe some that just go through and teach you the basics, and more about al of the modifiers. A little animation would be cool. Texturing is really valuable to learn also.

Blender, Blender, Blender! Start with a short beginner series and then cover the real interesting and complicated stuff like we’ve never seen before.

ZBrush and or sculpting in general + topology stuff!

Texturing. UV-Unwrapping, Texturing in Z-Brush, creating your own (good) textures in Photoshop & Co.

I’ll guess there’ll be more things but that’s the first that came in my mind. Keep in mind this suggestions are coming from somebody who is already familiar with 3D.

I would really like some google sketchup tutorials for creating complicated interiors of houses etc. You can also export your models from sketchup to 3dstudio Max etc which can make some simple object making very easy.

I want to start doing some cg work, but have no idea where to go. A list of all the applications out there (where to get them), some starter tutorials and guides to learning the products and then over the life of cgTuts, you progress with more tutorials that require more experience with the programs and dig deeper into a new level of difficulty. So in theory, over the year, we learn how to use Maya at a basic level for example, and in 12 months time, the tutorials would be into realistic sunlight and detailed facial rendering.

Yea, I’ve also been waiting for this to come. Looking forward especially to tuts for Blender and Cinema4D, as those are the 3d tools I work with most.

As you’re asking I’m gonna tell you briefly what I’d like to see the most :)

1.) Advanced Rendering Techniques that explain things deeply and not just tell you which settings to set. Especially for Advanced Render (C4D) and Yafray or Indigo (Blender). What I’m having most problems with is realistic indoor light setups using global illumination.

2.) Fluid Systems: since Blender has such an amazing fluids system I’d love to see some qualitative tutorials on how to use it – not only in Blender but also how to make use of its fluid system in other 3D apps, such as C4D (not only but also because Realflow is so expensive)

3.) “From 3D to the Web (Flash/Flex)”: Though I can’t say I really like Flash it still seems to be the only way to bring 3D into the web, so I’d appreciate to learn more about how to bring 3D Models and Animations online.

I would aim for more intermediate to expert tuts. You’d be surprised how quickly people pick up stuff from more advanced tutorials – just be sure to explain clearly what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. There’s an over-abundance of beginner tuts already out there.

As mentioned already, Blender and C4D are top contenders – Blender because it’s free (also criminally underestimated by people using the more expensive 3D packages) and C4D because it’s one of the more artist-friendly 3D apps. Not against 3DS but it’s an oversaturated area with regards to tutorials.

For actual topics, would be interesting to see the process of how a web page could be put together with graphics created in a 3D package (obviously, with more emphasis on the 3D modelling and slicing & dicing of the final render over the html/css/etc. side).

Other interesting topics that come to mind would be:
    architecture modelling
    landscape modelling
    foliage (trees, plants, hedgerows, etc.)
integrating 3D with live action footage
lighting scenes to set different moods
tips & tricks to reduce workload
    particle effects
    cloth simulation
good efficient workflows (model -> texture -> lighting – > render)
standard photo/film advice for framing a shot (angles, areas of interest, scene layout, etc.)

I like c4d too! Mograph perhaps :) I think video format is so much easier to understand in 3d than reading a long list of instructions, its more entertaining too.

I would love to see architectural tutorials on building a house or larger building, from the 2D designs. Done in either C4D or Maya.

Also, I’ve been trawling the net for ages to get a Maya to AE tutorial, so that would be great, that said another C4D to AE would go down well aswell.

I guess you need to keep it even but bear in mind that 90% of online CG tutorials are already geared towards 3DS.

    Much love

By far the most promising future for 3D.

Beginner series is a must, especially a foundation CG series… which is not application specific but talks about how 3d works, coordinate spaces, normals, verts, edges, faces, texturing, UV, surfacing / materials, rendering, compositing… etc.

Tutorials on Industry work flows would be great.

It’s hard to please everyone on what software to showcase but general tutorials on developing techniques which are used across all software programs would be good.

Software such as Z Brush is much more affordable for people looking to get into 3D and obviously Blender is free and would be great too.

There’s too much of the same tutorial content out there which goes over the same things and Maya seems to dominate a lot of different 3D sites which can be frustrating if you use Max – although there are great sites out there for 3ds Max.

I’ve added the suggestion to UserVoice that it would be good to have a platform along the same lines as Graphic River to buy and sell 3D assets. I think that would be a very cool addition to the envato marketplace.

But if you ask me for an application i may to prefer ANY alternative to 3Dmax or MAYA, because there are so many tutorials about them….programs like C4D, Blender, Xsi, Modo, Zbrush , are welcome.

A well put-together introduction for 3DS Max even if its a Plus only tut. I really enjoyed the three part ultra-detailed intro to Adobe After Effects on AeTuts and would love to see that here.

I am not against Blender, C4D, Maya or any other package. I believe that each has their strengths and weaknesses. 3DS Max seems to be a more approachable, and supported application to start with (from all that I have read).

I have sunk hundreds of dollars into DVD’s from Gnomon Workshop on Maya… and learned a LOT.. but to see something of that caliber for 3ds Max on Tuts would be AWESOME!!!

just to change the mood i would like to see non software specific tutorials things that can be practiced across the board hard edge/soft modeling techniques … workflow hints, general rendering and texturing tips. lighting advice for natural and studio lighting.

ummmm rules of light caustics etc

fluid, gas/particular and cloth animation umm fur and hair

maybe some advice on getting the…xyz look (eg the pixar look) or emulating some famous 3d models

ummmm other than that some partial animating and scripting ones would be good.

sorry this is alot and vague but you are one of a handful of tut sites i frequent and i jsut want you to cover everything haha

    peace

    brian

what else umm maybe a monthly competition would be nice if you have a way of hosting user submitted content.

Hi first of all I want to thank you for putting this site up, I will like to see some pipeline examples, from rendering passes up to after effects, color correction…balancing etc, also I think it`ll be really important to talk about render passes, as a 3d artist I find myself doing lots of different passes….and sometimes get myself mixed up with up to 15 or more different passes, and have to composite them together.
also if possible it`ll be cool to have some `freebies` …personally I`ll like to see some `good` shaders…. for ice, concrete, stone, snow. I see a lot around the web, but most of them are not nice, Knowing the quality of your work If any of my petitions is done I know it`ll be a blast… have a good one guys, and cheers again!

3ds Max basic and advance modeling, also character modelings in the same as they may help some beginners really much. And reducing rendering time is the main from my opinion. Aww.. man it’s just too boring when we use mental ray.

    Hy,
One thing I would find very useful is how to model and set up real world scenes for non modelers.
Designers often need visualization. I can think of paper bags bottles of wine and most often non 3d objects posters, envelopes.
So if we could have a basic setup were one has all these things ready to take the map and tweak it a little bit and render that would be great.
The first thing that comes to mind is for a basic stationary – Folder, envelope, A4 paper, and shooting rig.

MAYA DYNAMICS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anything with Maya dynamics would be great, like for fields or emitters. I’ve searched the internet far and wide for a video tutorial that explains how to make really “realistic” fire and explosions using Maya’s fluid dynamics and have found little to nothing, except for some stuff at the gnomon workshop that you have to pay for. And they don’t even give any convincing sample tutorials on the topic to entice me into buying their dvds. I have been able to get some ok results using Maya’s example scenes but fall short of getting realistic results. Maya doesn’t even have any plugins like 3DS Max does for fire and explosions such as fume fx, so unless there is a plugin that I don’t know about I’m stuck with Maya’s built in fluids/gases engine. Also any tutorials using Maya’s cloth and fur plugins would be awesome too. Oh, and tutorials that integrate live action with CG elements using 3D trackers like Syntheyes. Thanks!

    More Cinema 4D tutorials.
Something like modeling and animate a transformer would be realy cool!
For example: a transform from a ipod to a little simple robot.
I tried somethings with PBlurp but i didn’t get the transformer-look effect.
I think it would be a great tutorial.

Most of the tutorials around the web for 3d are for 3DsMax or Maya and Blender.
In Cinema 4D you can make awesome motion graphic animations, but there are so few tutorials for this.

So I hope that er is a Cinema 4D pro out there who can make some cool usefull tutorials. And there are som good tutorials offcourse no doubt about that. Only its not that many.

a Transformer modeling/animation tutorial is what i want the most and some cool motion graphic tutorials would also be cool.

Sorry for my bad English, but I hope you can help me.
