Classical Sculpting – Anatomy and Figurative Art for Digital Sculptors

In this lecture the instructor demonstrates the digital sculpting and rendering of a classical style marble sculpture, showing how accurate anatomy and a dynamic pose combine to produce a professional and aesthetically pleasing result.

In this novel approach to teaching anatomy, the instructor regularly overlays the model with anatomy images as he sculpts, which makes it easy to visualize how the underlying anatomy relates to the sculpted surface of the model.

the learning curve of max is way better (and lower) than most other 3d software out there … which is why it’s preferred, however one is right to suggest that most high-end studios and 3d power-houses prefer blender (mainly because it’s free-so who cares if the learning curve is steep, right?), maya, xsi , etc. for their usability when it comes to wanting to churn out some amazing FX.

I’m a self-taught 3dmaxer and have been using it for some years now. In fact some job interviews that I gave in the past required that I had to know maya and even though I tried my hand at getting the basics of maya, I found out that the learning curve was just too steep (inspite of being well-grounded in aspects of 3D) … so I gave up.

Sure I’ll try again … but I have forgotten all those basics I had learned then … and that’s just it … it just takes too much time ‘cos of the steep learning curve. And this is me .. someone who is already into 3D, so where does a noobie stand?

Which is why I can understand 3dsmax being so popular … I don’t feel it has anything to do with inflated price or even propaganda … it’s just easy to master! Even a 2D animator or someone who has no knowledge of 3d
can take it up … but ask them to go for maya/xsi/modo/blender/etc and I can guarantee that they won’t even get halfway before the negativity kick in!

Anyone else agree with me ?
