I really want to put my hands on ‘D’Artiste Character Modeling 2′. It’s probably the only place you can sneak a peek into greatest character-modelling chefs’ kitchen and get a piece of their secret design recipes. When I grow up I want to make such bad-ass looking figures as Marcus featured on the cover :P

I really love these books. The reason why I want one of these books, I’ve graduated in applied informatics specialization multimedia. I’m great at web stuff but my 3D skills are still poor. (school basics) So I want to earn D’Artiste Character Modeling 2 so I can learn from the masters.

I would really appreciate “D’Artiste Character Modeling 2″ seems like a great book about character Modeling and the detail they put into these awesome models and being a big fan of Gears of War it would really give me an insight to the way they developed these characters.

I would love to have all of them! hehe, but it is the d’artiste book the one that I like most :) An old work companion of mine had one of those books and I loved it. There are some good tips and tricks about normal maps and if you like Gears of War you will love the renders inside.

    Good luck everybody :)

    Why? Two words… Ballistic Publishing.

  19. Matt says:

    Book: D’Artiste Character Modeling 2

Why: Because I read an interview w/ Kevin Lanning when this book came out and he had the greatest quote in it—second hand from one of his mentors—which was:

“The moment one is truly free to begin creating art digitally, is when the tools become transparent to the user.”

This is a mentality that I have strove for when doing any kind of work digitally.

Honestly I think it is a dead heat between “Exotique 4: The World’s Most Beautiful CG Characters” and “D’Artiste Character Modeling 2″ I have wanted both of them for awhile now but am just too cheap to spring for the money. I think when push comes to shove though I would go with D’Artiste because I have the first one and it has some great tips for character modeling.

  24. Jerry says:

I would LOVE the “Elemental 3: The World’s Best Autodesk Art” book– I’m currently studying Digital Animation, and rarely have money for books like this, unless they are required texts! (which never happens, by the way). I love that architectural work is featured in this book!

As I’m beginning to combine my knowledge about vfx with gfx, any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully it will help me land a job in the industry here in Denmark and I would be happy with either of the three books, but think I might prefer “D’Artiste Character Modeling 2″, as I feel it is the area I lack the most experience.

    D’Artiste Character Modeling 2

I am a 15 year old looking to become a character modeler. i have spent more than 3 years trying to be able to create characters, and other animations using modeling programs. These books all look like they will help me progress in that area, i would also love them for the armor and clothes the characters are wearing, that would help me with my concept art and trying to figure out what a “Warrior” class person would be wearing. the books have so much detail, i think one of them would help me, and thats why i chose Character Modeling 2.

Definetely: Elemental 3: The World’s Best Autodesk Art

I’m three years (out of seven) into my architecture degree and having this book would be so helpful in terms of inspiration and education. Next year I’m supposed to be in a practise where I’ll be improving my skills in 3D visulisation and have an interview tomorrow actually (heres hoping!). Cinema 4D is my main program and whilst I’m fairly good, this book should kick start me!

    Cheers

I would love the opportunity to have “Elemental 3: The World’s Best Autodesk Art”, it is by far the best source of inspiration out there. It is packed full of the most amazing, motivational, and realistic pieces. I have tried entering my work into Ballistic Publishing competitions before, but my ideas need to be stronger. I am very hopeful that my work will end up in this book one day.

I’d appreciate all the books I think, because I’m totally in love with graphic design, especially when it’s related to movies, motion design, and games.

But I think Exotique is the less technical book of the three, and it would be a great source of inspiration for my upcoming 3D portfolio. I’m willing to enter the 3D industry, but for the moment I’m at the beginning : here is my first modeling : http://www.timsoret.com/3D/alien3.mov
